About This Project
Situated in the Dordogne area of Southwest France, this was a massive restoration project of a 14th century chateau. This was the real thing. Built in 1310 during the 100 Year War between England and France, this well positioned building, in the center of the town of Belves, was in a ruinous state, but steeped in history. Listed with the French government as a National Historic Monument, many of the improvements required special approval, an administrative nightmare, but an interesting learning experience. Floors were repaired and a new staircase ascended the chateau’s turret.
